George Henry Edmundson, 36, Private, 2nd Battalion Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding Regiment)

Buried in Northern France,

Husband of E. V. Musgrave (formerly Edmondson), of 17, Cleopatra St., Bramley, Leeds.

Youngest to die in World War One:

 Frank Boyes aged 16, 9th August, 1915, Gallipoli,

Son of Arthur Spence Boyes and Fanny Boyes, of “Fern dale,” Bramley, Leeds.

 Thomas Paul, aged 17, 22nd September, 1916, France.

Son of Walter Paul, of 7, Barkers Place, Bell Lane, Bramley, Yorks. Native of Leeds.

Died at Sea:

 Sam Coulson Duce aged 26,, Battle of Jutland, HMS Invincible,

Battle of Jutland – 157 Stanningley Road, Bramley According to Probate Records

One of 1,026 who died when HMS Invincible was sunk – only 6 survivors

First Day of the Battle of the Somme:

15 killed on 1st July, 1916

Brothers:

 Joseph, the brother of Arthur Thomson, KIA on the Somme was also killed 25th April 1917

Son of John and the late Helen Mary Watmough, late of Bramley, Leeds. One of three brothers, all of whom fell. John Cyril  Baptised St.Peters, moved to Heaton, Northumberland.

EDITORIAL NOTE – These brave men were not necessarily Bramley residents but sons of a Bramley mother.

Victoria Cross Winner:

Frederick McNess, won Victoria Cross on the Somme in 1916.

Born 22nd January, 1892. 39 Town End Yard, Bramley residence in 1911 Census, occupation Carrier.

Died 04/05/1958.
